I do not do resolutions for the New Year. That said, I spend a focused amount of time towards year-end to think about priorities, goals, and intentions for the coming year.

On January 1st I listed 9 random accomplishments and some things I will be focusing on in honor of 2009. Becoming active in advocating the Pickens Plan is a big part of that!

I don’t want to just read, although I’ve spent a good amount of time reading the plan and looking at how the community is gearing up. I want to DO! I’m asking you to join me!

Next? Leave me a comment and tell me what you’re doing!

… and through the woods.

Larry, Chip, Buckwheat, & I just returned from a trip into the wilds of West Virginia to visit with Belinda and her family. Great fun! And we really did cross this river, the Blackwater, albeit a mile or two downstream.

This is Blackwater Falls, where we stopped on the way home. They’ve had quite a bit of rain and snow over there, and then a few warm days, so the Falls were quite spectacular.

And just to continue with the theme, here’s a shot taken through the woods. Check out those roots clawing their way over and around those boulders!

It was a quiet, pleasant family time visit. The girls have grown so much! And, no, I didn’t get any pics while we were there. We spent so much time talking and laughing, the camera sat forgotten in my backpack. Groan.

Saturday, Larry, Rick, and Chip(!) went deer hunting, but to no avail. Belinda, the girls, and I drove over to the French Creek Game Farm. Yes, I had the camera. Somehow, I missed any no pet signs, and Buckwheat is now officially a criminal.

If you click on the link, you will see the mountain lion – who looked very much like that as he stalked Buck & I down the hill and along the fence. I was not real concerned with getting pics at that point. The bobcats and bear were similarly interested in the visiting snack. It was a pretty quick walk.

For the most part, Buckwheat didn’t pay mind to any of it – he was more interested in the scores of squirrels scampering around.

You’ve heard me talk about the amazingly funny Lain Ehmann. I “found” her just about a year ago, as the leader of the LayOut A Day workshop at Big Picture Scrapbooking.

Bec and I loved playing along with her, and I can tell you that while the pace was frantic, we never had more fun and were truly in our element!

At a loss after the workshop ended, I stalked Lain’s blog. She was doing 30-Minute Thursday Challenges that kept the scrap mojo going – and I even won a couple of prizes!

Then, Lain got busy. There was a Little League tournament and travel. The challenges slowed down – she’s such a slacker! But I continued to stalk, and she kept me coming back with product reviews and sneak peeks of her projects. More than that, it was a personable, light-hearted banter. And, no matter how busy she is – she always responds -personally- to every blog comment. Every one.

Finally, she revealed her big secret – a book – Snippets: Mostly True Tales from the Lighter Side of Scrapbooking! Click through here to read an excerpt, and you will see for yourself exactly why I enjoy reading Lain’s thoughts and following her adventures. She is truly one of us! I cannot wait for this book to hit the store! Heck! I might just pre-order it! No hoping for Santa on this one!

So. The Blog Blitz? This is an out and out promotion – the book starts shipping the first week of December! You can pre-order now, and you can join the Pre-Launch Party here!

Consider yourself invited ….

If you check out the sidebar, you’ll see a new blinkie declaring, “I’m a Snipster!” and you may be wondering what that is all about.

Snippets

Well, that is ScrapHappy Lain for you! her new book, Snippets: Mostly True Tales from the Lighter Side of Scrapbooking is just about ready to launch!

I am humbled to be among the friends who have been asked to take part in the celebration – and, thus, the Snipsters, Sisters of the Snips was born.

Stay tuned for the blog party – and the opportunity for a Q&A with Lain! It’s just one of the many exciting things coming as we wind down 2008 with a BANG!

Indeed, we have seen history made, once again, in our lifetime.

I tend to keep pretty quiet about my political views. For the most part, it is that they are my private thoughts, and an ingrained desire to stay out of heated, emotional debate. I grew up with politics, the daughter of a political activist, election judge, fund raiser-extraordinare, and state party official. I have seen more than my share of the inside of the great political machine.

Two things strike me as remarkable, and it has nothing to do with the history the media pundits are finally feel free to report. And, no. I’ve misspoken. I do find it remarkable, and feel a great sense of satisfaction in, the fact that we have elected our first African-American President, and that race was not a formal campaign issue.

This is a follow-on to Nicki’s thoughts on a digitally-inept McCain, and my own response below.

I just had to look at Google.

Google McCain. Notice that the sponsored link goes straight to his donation page. Notice, also, that there is a distinct link to continue on to the website.

Goggle Obama. His sponsored link also goes to a donation page. Notice anything missing? Want to get to any content, you better go back to Google and click on the actual link.

Moving right along …

In McCain and the 21st Century, Nicki wonders what the backlash will be of McCain’s admission that he doesn’t know how to get online, and is he that far off average?

Hard to tell. I probably am, that’s for sure. Like Nicki, I telecommute on a regular basis, have been online-with-website for more years than I care to disclose, and, no, I don’t remember the IBM portable, but I had a similarly cumbersome Compaq portable – with a pretty black and orange screen.

Yeah. It’s that time of year. This year, I’m doing a bit more decluttering than cleaning, but it’s all good.

Those who know me from the OH days, know I usually approach this with a plan. Barring that, I’ll choose an area and stick with it until it’s done or I can’t face another minute of it. I have neither the energy nor mind frame for that, so I’m applying a different strategy.

We’ll just call it the “Low Hanging Fruit Method” — hitting the junk that’s easiest to deal with and makes the greatest impact in whatever time I have to throw at it. lol It’s been alittle over 7 days, and I’m tickled with the progress.
