In the post below, you saw me playing with a new web service – LiveBlog from CoverItLive. The whole process is fairly straightforward.
You can load all media files – that’s images, audio, and video – in advance. It’s about as easy as uploading to Photobucket, Flickr, or Picasa. To use preloaded media files during the LiveBlog, you just double click on them from the console.
You can also preload links that you wish to use, and text files.
Running the LiveBlog is almost as easy as using IM. You have a web page that is a console. The “IM” piece is in the middle, and your files and tools are to the left. Comments from viewers display on the right side of the console. The application runs on AJAX.
For your viewers, they just go to your website, where you’ve already posted the code. It’s all automatic for them. They just sit there and watch – it’s a JAVA script.
Looking at my replay, you have to click on the view files link for image pop ups.
During the LiveBlog, I had the settings so that the images popped up automatically. I was watching in another window, and it worked seamlessly.
There were some lags. Not sure if that was me or the server.
Yes. You read that you can use audio files. So, you could stream a musical introduction or background. The viewer will hear it, and have the option to mute sound.
Viewer comments. You will see those stream into a section of the console in real time. No one else sees them unless you specifically click the ADD button on the message you want public.
You have the option of responding to the comment publicly – or sending the viewer a private message.
There is a Be Right Back timer that you can set, and the viewers see a countdown clock for the minutes until you return. You can continue to send information – either publicly or privately during that time. Perfect for a Q&A period or Open Chat.
Unless there is an option I missed, which is entirely possible, you would have to physically ADD each comment you wanted to be public.
If you go to the site – CoverItLive - there is a demo that lets you play with the console. When I did it, one of the developers jumped in and guided me through the whole process. Truly awesome!
Even better – the service will be available as a mobile app in February! What you say?! Yes! You could launch a LiveBlog from you cell phone!
I am SO into this! TimelessCrone.com is going to ROCK!
